January essentials for those of us not messing around.

With gray skies looming and cold temps the norm for the foreseeable future, this southern transplate takes winter prep seriously. Here are a few winter essentials that I swear will get a girl from December to April with only a little wear and tear.

#1 The manager spotted my tired, blotchy, wind whipped face across the crowded store and found her way to my side. From her opening line, “I have something you should try,” I was hooked. The lady knew her stuff. John Rosebrook’s Vital Balm stares cold weather in the face and the wind blinks first. (The Detox Market is one of my fav shops in NYC so add it to your list if clean beauty is your beat.)

#2 Who are we kidding? The heels are in hiatus till spring. Grab a pair of these to wear till the ice melts.

#3 Too many really good design books came out this fall and I’m behind on my reading so sitting fireside with this and this one. So. Good.

#4 Not sure if I’ll make it or buy it but I definitely want to own it.

#5 I never met a candle I didn’t love. Tapers, votives, candelabras…. they all work. Seriously, does anyone look bad in candlelight? My case is made. Here’s a favorite source handmade in upstate New York. Boom.
